Wimbledon: Cirstea stops Ostapenko to reach third round, Haddad Maia next
Sorana Cirstea edged out Jelena Ostapenko 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-4 on Thursday afternoon and will play Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 13 seed, in the next round
Romanian Sorana Cirstea reached the third round of Wimbledon by edging out Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 17 seed, 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-4 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Thursday afternoon.
Cirstea, ranked No 37, will face Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 13 seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the 33-year-old Romanian won against German Tatjana Maria (6-1, 2-6, 6-3).
Ostapenko, ranked No 17, beat Belgian qualifier Greet Minnen (6-1, 6-2) in the previous round of The Championships.
