Bouzkova advances to last 16 of WImbledon for the first time

Czech Marie Bouzkova beat American Alison Riske, the No 28 seed, 6-2, 6-3 to reach the last 16 of Wimbledon at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Friday.

Bouzkova, ranked No 66, will play the winner of the match between Chinese Shuai Zhang, the No 33 seed, and Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia next.

In the previous rounds, the Czech had upset American Danielle Collins, the No 7 seed (5-7, 6-4, 6-4) and won against American Ann Li (6-0, 6-3).

This is Bouzkova’s first appearance in the fourth round of a Grand Slam. Her previous best performance in a Major was a second round appearance at the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon.
