Wimbledon: Badosa rallies past Kasatkina, advances to last 16
The Spaniard will face Croat Donna Vekic in the next round
Spaniard Paula Badosa reached the last 16 of Wimbledon by edging out Russian Daria Kasatkina, the No 14 seed, 7-6 (6), 4-6, 6-4 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Friday afternoon.
The 26-year-old Spaniard is into the round of 16 at a major for the first time since Wimbledon 2022.
Badosa rallied from 4-2 down in the final set, claiming the final four games to lock up the hard-fought victory in two hours and 52 minutes. The Spaniard is into the second week at Wimbledon for the third time in the last four years, improving her overall record at the Championships to 10-4.
Badosa, ranked No 93, will play Croat Donna Vekic next.
Earlier in the tournament, the Spaniard defeated Karolina Muchova (6-3, 6-2) and Brenda Fruhvirtova (6-4, 6-2).
Kasatkina, ranked No 12, won against Chinese Shuai Zhang (6-3, 6-0) and wildcard Yuriko Lily Miyazaki (6-0, 6-0) in the previous rounds of The Championships.
