Wimbledon: Alcaraz defeats Djokovic for fourth major title
Carlos Alcaraz lifted the trophy on Sunday afternoon against Novak Djokovic.
Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the No 3 seed, won the Wimbledon final by defeating Serb Novak Djokovic, the second seed, 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (4) at the All England Club in London on Sunday.
Alcaraz improves to 4-0 lifetime in major finals – he is the second man in Open Era history to win the first four Grand Slam finals he has played.
The 21-year-old Spaniard is also the sixth man in the Open Era to win Roland-Garros and Wimbledon in the same year, and the 2nd Spanish man in history to win multiple Wimbledon titles.
Alcaraz, ranked No 3, beat Estonian qualifier Mark Lajal (7-6 (3), 7-5, 6-2), Australian Aleksandar Vukic (7-6 (5), 6-2, 6-2), American Frances Tiafoe, the No 29 seed (5-7, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-2), Frenchman Ugo Humbert, the No 16 seed (6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5), American Tommy Paul, the No 12 seed (5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2) and Russian Daniil Medvedev, the No 5 seed (6-7 (1), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of The Championships, Djokovic, ranked No 2, beat qualifier Vit Kopriva (6-1, 6-2, 6-2), wildcard Jacob Fearnley (6-3, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5), Australian Alexei Popyrin (4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (3)), Dane Holger Rune, the No 15 seed (6-3, 6-4, 6-2), Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 9 seed (W/O) and Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 25 seed (6-4, 7-6 (2), 6-4).
