“Serena Williams is a G.O.A.T., she’s a legend, and she can do whatever she wants” – Ons Jabeur
Jabeur says the fact that Serena Williams is competing at Wimbledon means the American believes she can win it
Serena Williams may not have played a singles match in a year. But the fact that none of the other players in the women’s singles draw at Wimbledon are putting it past her to go be a contender at the grass court Major. That includes the current world No 2 and Serena’s doubles partner in Eastbourne last week, Ons Jabeur.
The Tunisian won her first round match at Wimbledon, beating Mirjam Bjorklund 6-1, 6-3 on Monday and later in her press conference, talked about Serena Williams’ chances this fortnight.
“I think if she’s here, then she believes she can be, I mean, that she can win this tournament as well.
I believe that she can. She’s a G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time), she’s a legend, and she can do whatever she wants.”
Jabeur, who is the first African woman to reach the top 10, said she believes a person, including herself and Serena Williams, can accomplish anything that they put their mind to.
“In general I believe if you put something in your mind, you can achieve it no matter what people is talking about you. If you’re mentally strong, you can do anything. That’s honestly the message I’m trying to send every time. I’m someone from Tunisia, nobody even believed that I could be here, and here I am talking to you.”
