Alison Riske of the USA became Wimbledon’s first match winner of the year as she reached the second round by beating Ylena In-Albon 6-2, 6-4.
The American is seeded 28th in the women’s singles, and was playing an opponent who recently achieved a career-high ranking of world No 110.
Riske lost her first matches in both Birmingham and Eastbourne – but that followed a run to the Birmingham final at the start of June.
