“I think no one has ever moved like that in the woman’s game like her” – Bencic on fourth round foe Swiatek
Swiatek beat the Swiss woman in January but lost their only Grand Slam meeting at the 2021 US Open
Olympic gold medallist Belinda Bencic is through to the fourth round of Wimbledon where she will take on world No 1 and four-time Grand Slam winner Iga Swiatek. The Swiss woman has won one of their three meetings, incidentally at the Grand Slam stage (2021 US Open) but knows that playing the Pole is going to be a tough ask.
Bencic has never been beyond the fourth round at the All England Club but is looking forward to the challenge of playing Swiatek, who she described as the best mover in the history of the women’s game.
“I think it’s her movement, absolutely,” the Swiss said when asked what about Swiatek impresses her the most. ” I think no one has ever moved like that in the woman’s game like her.”
This will be their second meeting in 2023. Swiatek won their clash at the United Cup in January 6-3, 7-6. The two were also due to play in the quarter-finals of Doha in February but the Pole pulled out of the tournament.
“I played her this year actually in United Cup in Brisbane. I think that was a really high-quality match. I think it was the second match for the season,” the 26-year-old said. “My season went also I think really good, and of course, she’s the best in the world and she’s winning a lot of the matches. She is very consistent. I’m really up for the challenge. I’m excited to play her. I think I’m a player that I play well against, you know, top players.”
The fourth round clash between the two is scheduled to take place on Sunday.
