“You don’t see too many young (British) players coming through, who have all the criteria: Raducanu looks like she’s the real deal”
In the latest episode of “The Volley Podcast”, noted tennis journalist Simon Cambers breaks down Radacanu’smagical Wimbledon run and what the road ahead could look like for her.
It has been a big fortnight for Emma Raducanu, of Great Britain, who become one of the biggest stories of Wimbledon 2021. The 18-year-old became the heartthrob of English tennis fans after becoming the youngest British woman to reach the fourth round at Wimbledon in the Open Era. However, Raducanu also got a taste of life in the spotlight, as she faced criticism from some quarters following her retirement during her fourth-round encounter against Ajla Tomljanovic.
With things going back to normal after the end of Wimbledon, noted British tennis journalist Simon Cambers was left impressed by her run at the All England Club. Speaking on “The Volley Podcast”, Cambers said there were plenty of reasons for English fans to get excited about the youngster.
“It wasn’t just that she was brilliant at moving around the court. It was also her ability to stay calm under pressure, Cambers stated. “She played the big points really really well. She got the crowd involved. She was playing with a massive smile on her face, which was just great to see. You don’t see too many young (British) players coming through, who have all the criteria or characteristics of what you need to be a good player. Raducanu looks like she’s the real deal.”
