Eight-time champion Federer gets special welcome to Wimbledon
The Swiss legend was honoured before the start of play on Centre Court
Roger Federer made a special appearance at Wimbledon on Tuesday, taking a seat in the Royal Box next to Catherine, Princess of Wales – and his wife Mirka.
Clearly moved by the standing ovation he received from the Centre Court crowd, the Swiss applauded the fans back in recognition of the support he had received from them over the previous two decades.

“Roger, thank you for the memories – sit back and enjoy your day,” said the stadium announcer ahead of the first match on court – defending ladies’ singles champion Elena Rybakina against Shelby Rogers.
It was the latest engagement in a busy week for Federer – he had been on stage with Coldplay in Zurich over the weekend, plus caught Elton John live in concert as well.
