Elliot Benchetrit recorded his first victory in the Ultimate Tennis Showdown, defeating French compatriot Lucas Pouille in a sudden death thriller to kick off Day 2 of Patrick Mouratoglou’s radical new quick-play tennis format. The world No 208 snatched victory after coming from two quarters to one down to level at 16-11, 11-14, 12-14, 15-10 before winning 3-1 in sudden death.

Paire fights back to beat Brown and claim opening UTS win
Benoit Paire fought back from losing the tightest of opening quarters in his Ultimate Tennis Showdown encounter against Dustin Brown. Paire, The Rebel, had lost his opening encounter 3-1 against Stefanos Tsitsipas, but reversed that scoreline as Brown suffered a second successive defeat after an entertaining encounter, Paire clinching victory 18-19, 17-14, 18-15, 21-12.

Goffin’s wall crumbles under the might of Berrettini’s hammer blows
Matteo Berrettini followed up his 3-1 victory over Germany’s Dustin Brown with a crushing win over Belgium’s David Goffin in Ultimate Tennis Showdown on Monday. Berrettini The Hammer was up against The Wall in Goffin, but it was the latter who crumbled under sustained and relentless hitting from his opponent, and now has it all to do after two opening defeats, Berrettini claiming a 13-12, 20-8, 18-9, 11-12 victory.

Popyrin edges Lopez in UTS classic as The Sniper notches second win
Patrick Mouratoglou Academy player Alexei Popyrin notched up his second win of the Ultimate Tennis Showdown by edging out veteran Feliciano Lopez in one of the matches of the tournament so far. The match was a classic contrast of styles from start to finish and it could have gone either way but it was the young Australian who eventually came out the victor, winning three quarters to one, 13-11, 14-17, 14-13, 15-12.

Tsitsipas edges Gasquet in sudden-death UTS thriller
The final match of a drama-packed second day of Ultimate Tennis Showdown produced an absolute thriller, as The Greek God, Stefanos Tsitsipas, edged out The Virtuoso Richard Gasquet after sudden-death. Both players had won their opening matches coming into the eagerly anticipated encounter, and after Gasquet won the fourth quarter to take it into a decider, it was Tsitsipas who took the match on his fourth match point, winning 17-12, 14-15, 15-12, 13-15 and then 5-3 in sudden death.
