Struff to play UTS Grand Final, replacing injured Shapo
Jan-Lennard Struff makes his third UTS appearance as a replacement for Shapovalov
Jan-Lennard Struff joins the UTS Grand Final lineup, with the German replacing Denis Shapovalov at the eight-man event in London after the Canadian announced an elbow injury has ruled out him out.
Struff is a familiar face on the UTS Tour. Known as ‘The Thunder’, he has played both of the UTS Frankfurt tournaments. He sits 15th in the 2024 UTS Race, and replaces Shapovalov as a wildcard in London.
“Unfortunately I’ve struggled with my elbow since Davis Cup and won’t be able to compete at the UTS Grand Final in London,” Shapovalov said in a statement on Monday.
“But I really look forward to playing again in UTS next year in Guadalajara. I want to wish the best of luck to all the players in London, I’m sure it’s going to be a very fun week.”
Shapovalov has competed in UTS twice in 2025, debuting in New York and playing in Frankfurt as well, and received a wildcard to compete at the year-end event in London.
Struff will join Alex de Minaur, Alexander Bublik and Holger Rune in Group B, with the four men playing a round robin format over the first two days of the event in an attempt to make the Final Four on Sunday.
Over in Group A, tournament favourite Andrey Rublev takes on Frankfurt runner-up Ugo Humbert, New York champion Gael Monfils and Australia’s Thanasi Kokkinakis for their spots in the final day.
Play begins on Friday, December 6, and runs through until Sunday, December 8, at the Copper Box Arena in London. Tickets are still available here.
