Monfils and Fritz to meet in inaugural UTS Nîmes event
Bastide Médical UTS Nîmes will kick off the clay-court season and will be played on 4 and 5 April
The first-ever UTS Nimes event will showcase four blockbuster quarter-finals after the draw for next month’s event was made on Tuesday.
“La Monf” will play “The Hotshot”, Taylor Fritz, in the Bastide Médical UTS Nîmes, to be played on clay in the historic Arènes de Nîmes on April 4 and 5.
Kick-starting the clay-court season, the Monfils and Fritz battle is a repeat of their 2023 UTS Los Angeles clash, won by Fritz in sudden death, and of their meeting at the Australian Open this year, when the 38-year-old Monfils pulled off a shock victory.
Another Frenchman, Ugo Humbert, “The Commander” and Alex de Minaur, “The Demon”, who won the UTS Grand Final in London in 2024.
In the other half of the draw, Andrey “Rublo” Rublev plays “The Mountain”, American Ben Shelton, with Casper Ruud “The Ice Man” taking on Holger Rune – “The Viking” – in the other four quarter-finals, a repeat of their UTS Oslo encounter in 2024, won 3-1 by Ruud.
The semi-finals and final will be played on Saturday 5 April, with the winner automatically qualifying for the 2025 UTS Grand Final.
Quarter-final draw:
Taylor Fritz (1) vs Gaël Monfils
Alex de Minaur (3) vs Ugo Humbert
Andrey Rublev (4) vs Ben Shelton
Casper Ruud (2) vs Holger Rune
The last remaining tickets for Saturday (12,000 fans expected) and Friday are available online at www.uts.live.
