Kyrgios withdraws from UTS New York semi-final
The Australian experienced some wrist stiffness the morning after his UTS quarter-final vs Ruud
Nick “King Kyrgios” Kyrgios has withdrawn from his semi-final vs Gael “La Monf” Monfils at UTS New York, due to experiencing some discomfort in his wrist – the location of the injury which has had him out of the sport for the last 12 months.
Addressing his withdrawal, the Australian wanted to thank the fans and tournament organisers:
“I loved being back on court, and there was no better place to start my return than at the UTS in New York. It felt great to play in a competitive atmosphere again, and feel the love from the UTS fans!
Unfortunately, I woke up with a stiff wrist and I have to follow advice from my physio, I’m at the later stages of my rehab and have to take it slow to make sure I don’t have any set backs. I am so close to a return on the tour! That’s why I can’t compete against Gael today and need to withdraw from the tournament. I want to thank Patrick for allowing UTS to be a big part of my Journey, and to the fans, thank you for all the support it goes a long way! I will be back.”

The former Wimbledon finalist looked like he had never been away from the tour when he faced Casper “The Ice Man” Ruud, beating the Norwegian three quarters to love (17-8, 21-9, 15-11), with his serve looking particularly strong.
His withdrawal means that Stefanos “El Greco” Tsitsipas moves into the semi-finals, with the following changes to the order of play:
