Kyrgios on recovery from surgery: “I’m taking it one day at a time”
The Australian has played just once in 18 months after two knee surgeries and a wrist injury
Nick Kyrgios says his recovery from surgery is on track as he looks to return to the ATP Tour this spring.
Kyrgios has played just one event in the past 18 months after two knee surgeries and a torn ligament in his wrist but earlier this month said he hoped to be back competing in around a month.
‘I’m feeling great but taking it one day at a time,” Kyrgios told UTS by email. “It was a pretty significant surgery so we will see how it goes.”
Kyrgios set for UTS New York
Kyrgios has signed up to play in UTS New York, which will be held from Aug 22-23 at the legendary Forest Hills, formerly the host of the US Open. The 28-year-old urged fans to book their tickets early. “I’m box office,” he said. “Simple as that.”
The Australian, the runner-up at Wimbledon in 2022, said he could not wait to play in the UTS, having got a taste for the innovative, groundbreaking format when he acted as coach for Frances Tiafoe at UTS Los Angeles last summer.
“UTS is the future for sure,” he said. “Unbelievable experience in LA. Patrick (Mouratoglou) has it down.
And Kyrgios said playing UTS in front of American fans was right up his street. “For me it’s the energy, the music and the culture,” he said. “That brings out the best in me. It’s much more like basketball than tennis. I always love playing in the US and feel really comfortable there.”
