Grigor “G-Unit” Dimitrov replaces Medvedev in UTS Frankfurt
Grigor Dimitrov is the latest superstar to join the Frankfurt field
Grigor Dimitrov will compete in UTS Frankfurt this weekend.
He replaces US Open runner-up Daniil Medvedev – and will assume the nickname “G-Unit” for the quickfire, adrenaline-fuelled competition.
He joins a field that comprises Gael “La Monf” Monfils, Andrey “Rublo” Rublev, Diego “El Peque” Schwartzman, Casper “The Iceman” Ruud, “The Thunder” Jan-Lennard Struff, “The Rocket” Christopher Eubanks, and Benoit “The Rebel” Paire.
Dimitrov is no stranger to UTS, featuring in UTS2 during the summer of 2020.
Medvedev: The last two weeks were very challenging
In a video addressed to the UTS fans, Medvedev explained his withdrawal.
“The last two weeks were very challenging for me, for my body, probably the two toughest weeks I have ever had on the tour,” he said. “It’s really disappointing because I really wanted to play in front of you. I like the event, I like the format, so I wish all the players and the event itself the best of luck. Hopefully it’s going to be a great show as always, and I hope to see you guys next time.”
UTS Frankfurt begins on Friday at the Süwag Energie Arena.
