The 17-year-old teenage prodigy is joining a stellar line-up in the upcoming Frankfurt edition of the 2024 UTS Tour
UTS has a teenage prodigy joining its stellar line-up in the upcoming Frankfurt edition of the 2024 UTS Tour.
Precocious German talent Justin Engel – ‘Starboy’ as is his UTS moniker – will make his UTS debut in his homeland at UTS Frankfurt this weekend (from October 18 – 20 at the ‘Süwag Energie Arena.’)
Following an impressive breakthrough season during which he became the first player born in 2007 or later to win an ATP Tour match, at 17, Engel also becomes the youngest player to play in the UTS.
He is the youngest winner of an ATP Tour match since Carlos Alcaraz in Rio de Janeiro in 2020, and with an ATP ranking of 458, Engel is the youngest player in the ATP Top 500. He plays right-handed and possesses an impressive double-handed backhand that has helped him win four ITF titles this year.
Engel played basketball and was a talented kickboxer before giving it up to focus on his tennis career – a move which appears to be paying dividends.
Citing both Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal as his idols, Engel will bring an entirely different dimension to the UTS Tour as youth meets experience in Frankfurt.
So it will be all to play for at UTS Frankfurt, with La Monf – Gael Monfils – looking to win a second straight UTS event, having won in New York, where he beat Alexander Bublik – The Bublik Enemy – to clinch his maiden UTS title.
Tickets for UTS Frankfurt are currently sale and can be purchased here.
