On Sunday (December 8), Alex “The Demon” de Minaur thrashed Holger “The Viking” Rune 3-0 (13-8, 14-11, 16-10) in the title clash of the 2024 UTS Grand Final at London’s Copper Box Arena.
The win meant De Minaur remained invincible throughout the week, downing Gael “La Monf” Monfils (3-1) in the semi-finals, and Rune (3-1), Jan-Lennard “The Thunder” Struff (3-1) and Alexander “The Bublik Enemy” Bublik (3-1) in the group stage.
After the triumph, De Minaur took a moment to reflect on his campaign in London and answered a few questions in the mixed zone.
You did amazing out there, five games, five wins, and you only dropped three quarters.
Alex de Minaur: Yeah it was a perfect week here in London, couldn’t have asked for anything better. I played some great tennis, every match was tough, physical and I came out on top so extremely happy with the performance.
Was there anything in particular that you did in order to get ready for UTS?
Alex de Minaur: Just work hard, I’m in the middle of my pre-season. It felt like I was feeling quite good physically with those extended rallies I made, that was something that was able to help me in the end against my opponents.
Tell us about the atmosphere out there, it was pretty crazy!
Alex de Minaur: It’s amazing, amazing to play here in London, Copper Box. The crowd was great, packed crowd, it was electric, loud, yeah singing, there was a bit of everything so as a player, that’s all you can ever ask for and it felt great competing in this atmosphere.
