US Open: Virtanen overcomes tricky Halys to reach second round

Finnish qualifier Otto Virtanen defeated French qualifier Quentin Halys 6-3, 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-2 to move into the second round of the US Open on Tuesday.

Virtanen, ranked No 125, will face the winner of the match between Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 10 seed, and American Marcos Giron next.
