Croat Donna Vekic, the No 24 seed, reached the third round of the US Open by defeating Belgian Greet Minnen 7-5, 6-1 on Wednesday.
Vekic, ranked No 24, will face American Peyton Stearns next.
The Croat won against Australian qualifier Kimberly Birrell (6-4, 6-4) in the previous round.
In the previous round, Minnen, ranked No 70, beat Pole Magdalena Frech (7-5, 7-5).
