Jannik Sinner won the title on Sunday evening against Taylor Fritz
Italian Jannik Sinner, the top seed, lifted the US Open trophy by beating American Taylor Fritz, the No 12 seed, 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Sunday evening.
Earlier in the tournament, Sinner, ranked No 1, defeated American Mackenzie McDonald (2-6, 6-2, 6-1, 6-2), American Alex Michelsen (6-4, 6-0, 6-2), Australian Christopher O’Connell (6-1, 6-4, 6-2), American Tommy Paul, the No 14 seed (7-6 (3), 7-6 (5), 6-1), Russian Daniil Medvedev, the No 5 seed (6-2, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4) and No 25 seed Jack Draper (7-5, 7-6 (3), 6-2).
Fritz, ranked No 12, defeated Argentinian Camilo Ugo Carabelli (7-5, 6-1, 6-2), Italian Matteo Berrettini (6-3, 7-6 (1), 6-1), Argentinian Francisco Comesana (6-3, 6-4, 6-2), Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 8 seed (3-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2), German Alexander Zverev, the No 4 seed (7-6 (2), 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3)) and No 20 seed Frances Tiafoe (4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1) in the previous rounds of the US Open.
