US Open: Sinner thrashes home favourite Michelsen for 50th win of 2024

Italian Jannik Sinner, the top seed, reached the third round of the US Open by winning against American Alex Michelsen 6-4, 6-0, 6-2 on Thursday.
The world No 1 also collected his 50th win of the season, something which only Alexander Zverev has achieved, and with 30 of these wins coming on Sinner’s beloved hard court.
Sinner, ranked No 1, will face the winner of the match between Italian qualifier Mattia Bellucci and Australian Christopher O’Connell next.
In the previous round of the US Open, the Italian defeated American Mackenzie McDonald (2-6, 6-2, 6-1, 6-2).
Michelsen, ranked No 49, beat qualifier Eliot Spizzirri (6-1, 7-5, 6-3) in the previous round of the US Open.
