Alert: Sinner beats Draper in US Open semi-finals

Jannik Sinner defeated Jack Draper in straight sets — albeit a tough, physical three sets — in the US Open semi-finals on Friday. Sinner awaits either Taylor Fritz or Frances Tiafoe in the championship match.

Jannik Sinner battled past Jack Draper 7-5, 7-6 (3), 6-2 to reach the final of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Friday evening.

Sinner, ranked No 1, will play the winner of the all-American match between No 12 seed Taylor Fritz and No 20 seed Frances Tiafoe.



The Italian’s run has also included victories over Mackenzie McDonald (2-6, 6-2, 6-1, 6-2), American Alex Michelsen (6-4, 6-0, 6-2), Australian Christopher O’Connell (6-1, 6-4, 6-2), American Tommy Paul, the No 14 seed (7-6 (3), 7-6 (5), 6-1) and Russian Daniil Medvedev, the No 5 seed (6-2, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4).

Draper, ranked No 25, delivered his best-ever Grand Slam result at the expense of China’s Zhizhen Zhang (6-3, 6-0, 4-0 ret.), Argentinian Facundo Diaz Acosta (6-4, 6-2, 6-2), Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp (6-3, 6-4, 6-2), Tomas Machac (6-3, 6-1, 6-2) and Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 10 seed (6-3, 7-5, 6-2).
