Ben Shelton advanced to the semi-finals of the US Open by defeating No 10 seed Frances Tiafoe 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7), 6-2 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Wednesday night.
Shelton, ranked No 47, will play Serb Novak Djokovic, the second seed, next.
Earlier in the tournament, Ben Shelton won against Argentinian Pedro Cachin (1-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4), Austrian Dominic Thiem (7-6 (1), 1-0 ret.), Russian Aslan Karatsev (6-4, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0) and No 14 seed Tommy Paul (6-4, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4).
Tiafoe, ranked No 10, won against wildcard Learner Tien (6-2, 7-5, 6-1), Austrian Sebastian Ofner (6-3, 6-1, 6-4), Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, the No 22 seed (4-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-6 (6)) and Australian wildcard Rinky Hijikata (6-4, 6-1, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Flushing Meadows tournament.
