US Open: Shelton moves into second round, Thiem exits final Grand Slam

American Ben Shelton, the No 13 seed, advanced to the second round of the US Open by winning against Austrian wildcard Dominic Thiem 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Monday.

Shelton, ranked No 13, will face the winner of the match between Italian Luca Nardi and Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut next.
