US Open: Sabalenka sets up quarter-final clash against Pliskova
Aryna Sabalenka defeated Danielle Collins 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 on Monday evening to complete the women’s quarter-final line up at the US Open
Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka, the No 6 seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of the US Open by defeating American Danielle Collins, the No 19 seed, in three sets at the US Open on Monday night.
Sabalenka, who reached the semi-finals here last year, won 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in two hours and 29 minutes. This was the second three-set match for Sabalenka this fortnight.
She had defeated American qualifier Catherine Harrison (6-1, 6-3), Estonian Kaia Kanepi (2-6, 7-6 (8), 6-4) and French qualifier Clara Burel (6-0, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
She will next meet Czech Karolina Pliskova, the No 22 seed, for a place in the semi-finals.
Sabalenka win completes women’s quarter-final line-up
With Sabalenka winning, the women’s quarter-final line-up at the US Open is now set.
World No 1 Iga Swiatek, a two-time Major winner, is the only player left in the draw to win a Grand Slam singles title.
