US Open: Ruud survives Nava onslaught to make second round

Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 5 seed, outlasted American qualifier Emilio Nava 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5) to move into the second round of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Monday afternoon.

Nava hit an incredible 72 winner across the four-set match, but also conceded 49 unforced errors. In what was a very tight match, Ruud just scraped home 7-5 in the fourth set tiebreak to avoid a deciding set, and make his way to the second round.

Ruud, ranked No 5, will face Chinese Zhizhen Zhang next.
