Dane Holger Rune, the No 28 seed, advanced to the second round of the US Open by winning against German Peter Gojowczyk 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 (5) at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City on Tuesday.
Rune, ranked No 33, will play American John Isner next.
