US Open: Rublev completes dramatic comeback against Rinderknech

Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 6 seed, came back against Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech 4-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 to reach the third round of the US Open in New York on Wednesday.

It was a stark turnaround from Rublev, who sprayed 24 unforced errors across the opening two sets, before making just 10 throughout the next three sets. The Russian began finding his range beautifully, plundering 38 winners in the final three sets as he dropped just five games to complete a dramatic comeback.

The win is just the second time in his career that Rublev has comeback from two sets to love down.

Rublev, ranked No 6, will face No 32 seed Jiri Lehecka next, who also came back from two sets down in his second-round match against Mitchell Krueger.

The Russian won against Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild (6-3, 7-6 (3), 7-5) ahead of his victory.

In the previous round of the US Open, Rinderknech, ranked No 56, defeated American wildcard Christopher Eubanks (6-4, 4-6, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8)).
