American Alison Riske-Amritraj, the No 29 seed, returned to the fourth round of the US Open for the first time since 2013 as she defeated China’s Xiyu Wang in three sets at Flushing Meadows on Friday evening.
Riske-Amritraj, who reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon in 2019, defeated Wang 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. This was the second consecutive match that Riske-Amritraj had been taken to three sets in New York, She had defeated Colombian Camila Osorio (6-4, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5)) in the second round and American defeated wildcard Eleana Yu (6-2, 6-4) in her opening match.
She will next meet the 17th seed Caroline Garcia, who defeated former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu 6-3, 6-2 in another third round contest.
