Australian Alexei Popyrin, the No 28 seed, beat SoonWoo Kwon 7-5, 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the second round of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Popyrin, ranked No 28, will play the winner of the match between Spaniard Pedro Martinez Portero and Pole qualifier Maks Kasnikowski next.
