American Jessica Pegula, the No 3 seed, beat Italian Camila Giorgi 6-2, 6-2 to reach the second round of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Tuesday.
Pegula, ranked No 3, will play the winner of the match between Romanian Patricia Maria Tig and Canadian Rebecca Marino next.
