Alert: Pegula rolls over Swiatek to reach US Open semis
Jessica Pegula made surprisingly quick work of Iga Swiatek at the US Open on Wednesday. Pegula will play on Thursday in the semis against Karolina Muchova.
American Jessica Pegula moved into the semi-finals of the US Open by beating Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, 6-2, 6-4 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Wednesday night.
Pegula, ranked No 6, will face Karolina Muchova for a spot in the title match.
Previously in New York the American ousted Shelby Rogers (6-4, 6-3), Sofia Kenin (7-6 (4), 6-3), Jessica Bouzas Maneiro (6-3, 6-3) and Diana Shnaider, the No 18 seed (6-4, 6-2).
Swiatek’s path to the last eight featured wins over Russian lucky loser Kamilla Rakhimova (6-4, 7-6 (6)), Japanese qualifier Ena Shibahara (6-0, 6-1), Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the No 25 seed (6-4, 6-2) and Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 16 seed (6-4, 6-1).
