US Open: Pegula makes last 16, takes out qualifier Yuan
Jessica Pegula defeated Yue Yuan 6-2, 6-7 (6), 6-0 on Saturday and will play Czech Petra Kvitova, the No 21 seed, in the next round
American Jessica Pegula, the No 8 seed, moved into the last 16 of the US Open by defeating Chinese qualifier Yue Yuan 6-2, 6-7 (6), 6-0 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City on Saturday.
Pegula, ranked No 8, will face Czech Petra Kvitova, the No 21 seed, next.
In the previous rounds of the Flushing Meadows, the American won against Swiss qualifier Viktorija Golubic (6-2, 6-2) and Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich (6-4, 6-4).
Yuan, ranked No 142, beat Australian wildcard Jaimee Fourlis (6-3, 6-2) and Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu (6-3, 7-6 (6)) earlier in the tournament.
