Confident Norrie moves into second round after easy win over troubled Paire, who might stop tennis

Seventh seed Cameron Norrie advanced to the second round of the US Open by beating Frenchman Benoit Paire 6-0, 7-6 (1), 6-0 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City on Tuesday.

Paire hit 13 double faults and 57 unforced errors to hand Norrie an easy path through to round two.

Norrie, ranked No 9, will face the winner of the match between Portuguese João Sousa and American Mackenzie McDonald next.

Norrie reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon earlier this summer.

Paire told French reporters he may now end his season early, admitting he is struggling for motivation.
