Niemeier sees off Putintseva in second round at US Open
Jule Niemeier won against Yulia Putintseva 6-4, 6-3 on Thursday. She’ll face the winner of the match between Russian Anastasia Potapova and Chinese Qinwen Zheng in the next round
German Jule Niemeier advanced to the third round of the US Open by defeating Kazakh Yulia Putintseva 6-4, 6-3 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City on Thursday.
Niemeier, ranked No 108, quarter-finalist at Wimbledon this year, will face the winner of the match between Russian Anastasia Potapova and Chinese Qinwen Zheng next.
The German won against American wildcard Sofia Kenin (7-6 (3), 6-4) ahead of her victory. Putintseva, ranked No 38, beat American Amanda Anisimova, the No 24 seed (6-3, 6-3).
