Alert – Navarro beats Badosa to reach US Open semi-finals
Emma Navarro beat Paula Badosa 6-2, 7-5 on Tuesday evening and will play the winner of the match between Chinese Qinwen Zheng, the No 7 seed, and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the second seed, in the next round
American Emma Navarro, the No 13 seed, beat Spaniard Paula Badosa, the No 26 seed, 6-2, 7-5 to reach the last four of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Tuesday evening.
Navarro, ranked No 12, will face the winner of the match between Chinese Qinwen Zheng, the No 7 seed, and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the second seed, next.
The American won against Russian Anna Blinkova (6-1, 6-1), Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus (6-1, 6-1), Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, the No 19 seed (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) and No 3 seed Coco Gauff (6-3, 4-6, 6-3) in the previous rounds.
Earlier in the tournament, Badosa, ranked No 29, won against Swiss Viktorija Golubic (6-0, 6-3), American Taylor Townsend (6-3, 7-5), Romanian qualifier Elena-Gabriela Ruse (4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (8)) and Chinese Yafan Wang (6-1, 6-2).
