US Open: Musetti beats Brouwer in four sets and advances to third round

Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 26 seed, advanced to the third round of the US Open by beating Dutch qualifier Gijs Brouwer (6-7 (1), 6-3, 6-4, 6-2) at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City on Thursday.

Musetti, ranked No 30, will now face the winner of the match between Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 8 seed, and Ilya Ivashka next.

Ahead of his victory, the 20-year-old Italian who clinched the title in Hamburg in July in his first ATP final, won against Belgian David Goffin (3-6, 7-5, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (9)).

Brouwer, ranked No 181, defeated Frenchman Adrian Mannarino (6-3, 6-4, 6-4) in the previous round of the Flushing Meadows.
