US Open: Moutet advances to third round, defeating seed No 21 van de Zandschulp
Corentin Moutet edged out last year quarter-finalist Botic van de Zandschulp 6-4, 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 on Wednesday. He’ll face the winner of the match between American qualifier Brandon Holt and Argentinian Pedro Cachin in the next round
French lucky loser Corentin Moutet moved into the third round of the US Open by edging out Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp, the No 21 seed, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City on Wednesday.
Moutet, ranked No 112, will face the winner of the match between American qualifier Brandon Holt and Argentinian Pedro Cachin next.
The Frenchman benefited from the abandonment of Swiss Stan Wawrinka (6-4, 7-6 (7)) ahead of his victory.
Van De Zandschulp, ranked No 22 and 2022 quarter-finaliste, only beat Czech qualifier Tomas Machac (3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-1, 3-6, 7-5) this season. He will drop to the rank No 35 after the US Open.
