Brazilian qualifier Felipe Meligeni Alves won against Australian lucky loser James Duckworth 6-4, 7-6 (11), 6-3 to advance to the second round of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Meligeni Alves, ranked No 168, will face the winner of the match between Argentinian Sebastian Baez and Croat Borna Coric, the No 27 seed, next.
