US Open: Machac breezes past Goffin to reach last 16

Tomas Machac moved into the last 16 of the US Open by beating Belgian David Goffin 6-3, 6-1, 6-2 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Machac, ranked No 39, will play the winner of the match between Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp and No 25 seed Jack Draper next.

Tomas Machac defeated Italian Fabio Fognini (7-5, 6-1, 6-3) and American Sebastian Korda, the No 16 seed (6-4, 6-2, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the US Open.

Earlier in the tournament, Goffin, ranked No 78, beat Chilean Alejandro Tabilo, the No 22 seed (7-6 (7), 6-1, 7-5) and edged out Frenchman Adrian Mannarino (6-7 (8), 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 (1)).
