US Open: Khachanov advances to third round showdown with Draper
Karen Khachanov edged out Thiago Monteiro 6-3, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 on Wednesday night and will play British youngster Jack Draper in the round of 32
Russia’s Karen Khachanov, the No 27 seed, defeated Brazil’s Thiago Monteiro 6-3, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 to reach the third round of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City on Wednesday night.
Khachanov, ranked No 31, will face unseeded Brit Jack Draper next. Draper upset No 6 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets in another second round encounter.
This was Khachanov’s second consecutive four set win in New York, having dropped a set in his win over American Denis Kudla (3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2) in the first round.
The Russian is through to the third round at Flushing Meadows for the third time in his career and will aim to reach the last 16 for the first time this year.
