Estonian Kaia Kanepi beat Czech Tereza Martincova 7-6 (4), 6-3 to reach the second round of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City on Tuesday.
Kanepi, ranked No 34 and Washington runner-up this year, will face Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the No 6 seed, next.
