US Open: Jabeur comes through challenging Noskova encounter
Ons Jabeur beat Linda Noskova 7-6 (7), 4-6, 6-3. She’ll face No 31 seed Marie Bouzkova in the next round
Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the No 5 seed, defeated Czech teen Linda Noskova 7-6 (7), 4-6, 6-3 to reach the third round of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Jabeur, ranked No 5, has been unwell during this week and continued to struggle on Thursday with the effects of what she believes is a flu.
“I’ve been sick since I think Thursday. I’m taking a lot of medicine. I’m doing everything I can with my team trying to recover. Honestly, they have amazing doctors here, so they’ve been helping me,” the Tunisian said. “Every day I’m there. Basically took every medication they have. We try to manage what my health is right now. I’m glad it was two matches, two tests for me. I was trying to push myself to see what I can do, getting out of the comfort zone kind of. Hopefully will continue in a better shape and feel better for the next match.”
That next match will be against another Czech, the No 31 seed Marie Bouzkova.
The Tunisian won against Colombian Camila Osorio (7-5, 7-6 (4)) in the previous round of the Flushing Meadow tournament.
In the first round of the Flushing Meadow tournament, Noskova, ranked No 41, beat American Madison Brengle (6-2, 6-1).
