US Open: Jabeur books spot in second round, dismisses Brengle
Ons Jabeur beat Madison Brengle 7-5, 6-2 on Monday. She’ll face American wildcard Elizabeth Mandlik in the next round
Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the No 5 seed, reached the second round of the US Open by winning against American Madison Brengle 7-5, 6-2 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City on Monday.
“It’s kind of weird match”, said the Wimbledon runner-up after the match. eWhen you lose your serve a lot, you have a lot of break points, so I was just trying to take every opportunity to really go forward in this match.
I believe I could have won the first set not 7-5, but at least like 6-2 or 6-3. So it’s frustrating to kind of lose those opportunities. But at the same time I’m very grateful that I won the first set.”
Jabeur, ranked No 5, will face American wildcard Elizabeth Mandlik next.
