“It’s not goodbye yet” Isner still alive at US Open, sets second-round clash with Mmoh

Playing in the final tournament of his career, American wildcard John Isner defeated Argentinian Facundo Diaz Acosta 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (1) to advance to the second round of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Tuesday evening.

The 38-year-old announced recently that the US Open would be his final tournament, with the big-serving citing the toll that professional tennis was taking on his body. The American managed to give his home fans something to cheer about against Acosta, however, thundering down 11 aces and winning 33 of 43 approaches to the net in his straight sets victory.

After the match the American said on-court:

“It’s not goodbye yet. I’m still alive, and you know, I’m actually feeling pretty good!”

Isner, ranked No 157, will play American wildcard Michael Mmoh next, who sent No 11 seed Karen Khachanov home earlier today.
