US Open: Hijikata dominates Fucsovics to reach third round

Australian wildcard Rinky Hijikata moved into the third round of the US Open by winning against Hungarian Marton Fucsovics 6-1, 6-2, 6-1 at the US Open on Wednesday evening.

Fucsovics, widely renowned as one of the fittest players on Tour, simply did not have enough gas in the tank to back up after his epic 7-6 (4), 4-6, 7-6 (1), 4-6, 6-4 defeat of No 31 seed Sebastian Korda in the first round. The No 57 was dominated across the board by Hijikata, who struck 21 winners and won 14 of 17 approaches to the net, as well as 82 percent of first serve points in the straight sets victory.

Hijikata, ranked No 110, will face the winner of the match between Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 5 seed, and Chinese Zhizhen Zhang next. The 22-year-old Australian edged out Russian Pavel Kotov (7-5, 5-7, 6-3, 7-5) ahead of his victory today.
