US Open: Etcheverry sees off dangerous Mpetshi Perricard

Tomas Martin Etcheverry beat Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 6-4, 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the second round of the US Open in New York on Monday.

Usually a dangerous server, Mpetchi Perricard’s serve misfired against Etcheverry, giving the Argentinian ample opportunity to break. While the Frenchman still made 15 aces, he served up 14 double faults, making just 54 percent of first serves and winning only 40 percent of second serves.

Etcheverry, on the other hand, had no double faults, 10 aces still, and won 87 and 82 percent of his first and second serves respectively.

He also made just 11 unforced errors across the match, compared to Mpetshi Perricard’s 50.

Etcheverry, ranked No 33, will face the winner of the match between Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, the No 29 seed, and Austrian Sebastian Ofner next.
