Novak Djokovic lifted the trophy on Sunday evening against Daniil Medvedev
Serb Novak Djokovic, the second seed, defeated Russian Daniil Medvedev, the No 3 seed, 6-3, 7-6 (5), 6-3 to win the US Open tournament at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Sunday evening.
Earlier in the tournament, Djokovic, ranked No 2, beat Frenchman Alexandre Muller (6-0, 6-2, 6-3), Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles (6-4, 6-1, 6-1), No 32 seed Laslo Djere (4-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, 6-3), Croat qualifier Borna Gojo (6-2, 7-5, 6-4), American Taylor Fritz, the No 9 seed (6-1, 6-4, 6-4) and American Ben Shelton (6-3, 6-2, 7-6 (4)).
Medvedev, ranked No 3, beat Hungarian Attila Balazs (6-1, 6-1, 6-0), Australian Christopher O’Connell (6-2, 6-2, 6-7 (6), 6-2), Argentinian Sebastian Baez (6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (6)), Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 13 seed (2-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-2), No 8 seed Andrey Rublev (6-4, 6-3, 6-4) and Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed (7-6 (3), 6-1, 3-6, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Flushing Meadows tournament.
