US Open: Cobolli battles back to reach third round, meets Medvedev next

Italian Flavio Cobolli, the No 31 seed, won against Belgian Zizou Bergs 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, 6-3 to move into the third round of the US Open on Thursday afternoon.

Cobolli, ranked No 31, will play Russian Daniil Medvedev, the No 5 seed, next. The Italian is playing in the US Open main draw for the first time and this equals his best Grand Slam performance (he also reached the third round of the Australian Open in January).

The 22-year-old Italian edged out Australian James Duckworth (6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4) ahead of his victory.

In the previous round of the US Open, Bergs, ranked No 80, beat Russian Pavel Kotov (6-2, 4-6, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7)).
