US Open: Cerundolo overcomes slow start, advances to second round

Francisco Cerundolo, the No 20 seed, beat American qualifier Zachary Svajda 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 to move into the second round of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Monday evening.

An error-ridden Cerundolo did enough on the opening day of the US Open to ensure his quest for a maiden Grand Slam stay alive. The Argentinian struck 53 unforced errors, but made up for it by blasting 61 winners in the two hour, 57 minute match.

Cerundolo, ranked No 20, will face the winner of the match between Jiri Vesely and French qualifier Enzo Couacaud next.
